Some friends bought a Harry Potter advent calendar for work. Each day in December they would open a door and find a new Harry Potter figurine. They wanted to continue enjoying it in the new year so I suggested that I make new figures to go behind the doors. So I kinda signed myself up to design 24 Harry Potter figurines :/ We’ll see how we go.

This pattern is written in American crochet notation. It uses a 2mm hook and grey, white, black, red and blue 4 ply wool.

It comes complete with red and blue flames that can shoot out of the goblet, as well as a parchment with Harry’s initials on it.

Goblet

With grey wool

We start with the base of the goblet

Round 1: 6sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 3: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 4: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches) (back loops only)

Round 5: decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (6 stitches)

Round 6: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (4 stitches)

Rounds 7 – 11: sc in each stitch (4 stitches) (5 rounds)

Stuff the stem of the goblet

Round 12: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (6 stitches)

Round 13: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 14: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 15: sc in the first two stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (24 stitches)

Rounds 16 – 21: sc in each stitch (24 stitches) (6 rounds)

Round 22: sc in each stitch (24 stitches) (back loops only)

Round 23: sc in the first two stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (back loops only) (18 stitches)

Rounds 24 – 28: sc in each stitch (18 stitches) (5 rounds)

Round 29: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Round 30: decrease until the hole closes.

Fasten off, weave in end.

 

Flames

Small flames (make two)

Keeping a long tail, chain 4 (one is a turning chain) (with blue)

Row 1: sc 3 into the chain (3 stitches) (blue, red, blue)

Rows 2 – 9: sc in each stitch (3 stitches) (8 rows) (blue, red, blue)

Row 10: decrease the first two stitches together, sc in the last stitch (2 stitches) (with just blue)

Row 11: decrease the remaining two stitches together (1 stitch) (with just blue)

Fasten off, weave in ends.

 

Large flame (make one)

Keeping a long tail, chain 4 (one is a turning chain) (with blue)

Row 1: sc 3 into the chain (3 stitches) (blue, red, blue)

Rows 2 – 12: sc in each stitch (3 stitches) (11 rows) (blue, red, blue)

Row 10: decrease the first two stitches together, sc in the last stitch (2 stitches) (with just blue)

Row 11: decrease the remaining two stitches together (1 stitch) (with just blue)

Fasten off, weave in ends.

 

Parchment

With white wool

Keeping a long tail ch 6 (one is a turning chain)

Row 1: sc 5 into the chain (5 stitches)

Rows 2 – 4: sc in each stitch (5 stitches) (3 rows)

Fasten off, weave in end.

 

Use black wool to embroider ‘HP’ in the parchment.

 

All you need to do now is sew the flames and the end of the parchment string into the base of the goblet 🙂
