Coelophysis

This pattern uses a 2 mm hook and 4 ply wool. The pattern is written in American crochet notation. The finished dinosaur is about 11 cm long.

Head

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Round 2: sc in each stitch (4 stitches)

Round 3: increase, sc, increase, sc (6 stitches)

Round 4: increase, sc – repeat (9 stitches)

Rounds 5 – 6: sc in each stitch (9 stitches) (2 rounds)

Round 7: decrease two stitches together, sc – repeat (6 stitches)

Stuff head

 

Neck

Round 8: chain 3, slip stitch into the stitch 3 behind the stitch the chain originates from

Rounds 9 – 15: sc in each stitch (5 stitches) (7 rounds)

Body

Round 16: sc 3, chain 4, slip stitch into the stitch 3 behind the stitch the chain originates from

Round 17: sc in each stitch (6 stitches)

Round 18: increase around (12 stitches)

Round 19: sc 6, increase in the next 6 stitches (18 stitches)

Round 20: sc 6, (increase, sc – repeat 6 times) (24 stitches)

Rounds 21 – 28: sc in each stitch (24 stitches) (8 rounds)

Round 29: sc 6, (decrease two sc together) x 6, sc 6 (18 stitches) (we want all the decreases to be in the belly area, so if necessary, adjust accordingly)

Round 30: sc 3, (decrease two sc together) x 6, sc 3 (12 stitches)

Stuff body

 

Tail

Rounds 31 – 32: sc in each stitch (12 stitches) (2 rounds)

Round 33: decrease around (6 stitches)

Stuff a bit more

Rounds 34 – 41: sc in each stitch (6 stitches) (8 rounds)

Stuff a bit more

Round 42: sc, decrease two stitches together, sc, decrease the last two stitches together (4 stitches)

Rounds 43 – 47: sc in each stitch (4 stitches) (5 rounds)

Fasten off, weave in end.

Join the wool into the hole at the back of the head and decrease around to reduce the size of the hole. Fasten off and sew the hole closed. Weave in the end. Do the same thing for the hole at the bottom of the neck.

 

Legs

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Rounds 2 – 3: sc in each stitch (4 stitches) (2 rounds)

Round 4: chain 3, slip stitch into the stitch two behind the stitch the chain originates from

Rounds 5 – 9: sc in each stitch (5 stitches) (7 rounds)

Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing

 

Arms

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Rounds 2 – 5: sc in each stitch (4 stitches) (4 rounds)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

There is no need to stuff the arms or legs. Sew them on and embroider the eyes.
