This pattern is written in American crochet notation.

Head

Round 1: with dark brown or grey wool, 6 sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: sc in each sc (6 stitches)

Round 3: increase in each sc (12 stitches)

Round 4: sc in each sc (12 stitches)

Round 5: increase, sc – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 6: sc in each sc (18 stitches)

Round 7: 2 sc, increase – repeat (24 stitches)

Round 8: sc in each sc (24 stitches)

Round 9: BACK LOOPS ONLY increase in first 10 stitches, then sc in the remaining 14 stitches

Round 10: sc in each sc

Round 11: 3 sc, increase – repeat

Rounds 12 – 15: sc in each sc

Round 16: 3 sc, decrease – repeat

Neck

Round 1: with dark brown or grey wool, chain 15, slip stitch in first chain

Rounds 2 – 8: sc in each sc

Rounds 9 – 11: place markers in first and eighth stitches. Increase, sc – repeat on one side of the markers. Decrease, sc – repeat on the other side of the markers.

Rounds 12 – 13: decrease, sc – repeat on one side of the markers. Sc in each stitch on the other side of the markers.

Rounds 14 – 18: sc in each stitch, except increase and decrease once on opposite sides of the markers.

Fasten off.

Legs (make two)

Toes (make three for each leg)

Round 1: with dark brown or grey wool, 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Rounds 2 – 4: sc in each sc (4 stitches)

Assembling the feet

Round 5: crochet the toes together (so start with two stitches on the first toe, then two stitches on the next and finally four stitches on the last toe. Then do two stitches on the other side of the middle toe and then two stitches on the first toe so that you have reached the start of the round again.

Round 6: sc in each sc

Rounds 7 – 8: 2 sc, decrease – repeat

Rounds 9 – 11: decrease on the underside of the foot and increase on the upper side of the foot.

Rounds 12 – 25: sc in each sc

Stuff and fasten off

Eyes (make two)

Round 1: with black wool, 6 sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: with light brown wool, increase in each sc (12 stitches)

Fasten off

Assembly

Sew the eyes to the head. Stuff the neck and sew it to the head and body. Sew the legs to the body.
