Firenze the centaur

Some friends bought a Harry Potter advent calendar for work. Each day in December they would open a door and find a new Harry Potter figurine. They wanted to continue enjoying it in the new year so I suggested that I make new figures to go behind the doors. So I kinda signed myself up to design 24 Harry Potter figurines :/ We’ll see how we go.

This pattern is written in American crochet notation. It uses a 2mm hook and pink, grey, black and brown 4 ply wool.

Head

With 4 ply pink wool

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Round 2: increase in every stitch (8 stitches)

Round 3: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (12 stitches)

Round 4: sc in each stitch (12 stitches)

Round 5: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (8 stitches)

Stuff

Round 6: decrease around (4 stitches)

Body

Round 7: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (6 stitches)

Round 8: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 9: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Rounds 10 – 13: sc in each stitch (18 stitches) (4 rounds)

Switch to grey 4 ply wool

Round 14: chain 16, rejoin to the stitch 3 behind the stitch the chain originates from

Rounds 15 – 19: sc in each stitch (18 stitches) (5 rounds)

Round 20: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Round 21: decrease until the hole closes.

Now join the wool in the hole near the human and horse bodies, sc 29. Now alternate sc stitches with decreases until the hole closes, but stuff the body first.

Arms (make two)

With pink 4 ply wool

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Rounds 2 – 5: sc in each stitch (4 stitches) (4 rounds)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew the arms onto the body.

Legs (make four)

With black 4 ply wool

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Switch to grey wool

Rounds 2 – 8: sc in each stitch (6 stitches) (7 rounds)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Stuff the legs and sew them onto the body.

Sew on wool for the tail and the hair and embroider the face. I was going to give him a haircut but then I decided I like the wind-swept look 🙂
