Climbing jasmine

Continuing my determination to not let my dad’s garden outshine mine, even though I live in a one bedroom apartment – behold my pandorea jasminoides! It is much lower maintenance than a real one and is always in flower 🙂

You will need a 2 mm hook, 8 ply green wool and 4 ply pink wool. This pattern is written in American crochet notation.

Make as many leaves, flowers and stems as you like. I just kept making leaves and stems until I ran out of the green wool I got cheap from the spinners and weavers guild garage sale. I kept making flowers until I became bored.

Stem

With 8 ply green wool and a 2 mm hook

Round 1: 4 sc in a magic ring (4 stitches)

Rounds 2 onwards: sc in each stitch (4 stitches)

Keep going for as long as you like.

I made a 120cm stem, a 50 cm stem and a 23 cm stem.

Leaf

With 8 ply green wool and a 2 mm hook

Each leaf is 5 cm long.

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: sc in each stitch (6 stitches)

Round 3: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (9 stitches)

Round 4: sc in each stitch (9 stitches)

Round 5: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (13 stitches)

Rounds 6 – 9: sc in each stitch (13 stitches) (4 rounds)

Round 10: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (9 stitches)

Round 11: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (6 stitches)

Round 12: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (4 stitches)

Rounds 13 – 14: sc in each stitch (4 stitches) (2 rounds)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Each flower is 2 cm long. The petals are 3.5 cm across.

Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 8: sc in the first 8 stitches, increase in the last stitch (10 stitches)

Petals

Sc 2, turn (2 stitches)

Increase two, turn (4 stitches)

Sc in each stitch, turn (4 stitches)

Decrease two stitches together x 2 (2 stitches)

Slip stitch down the side of the petal into position to do the next petal.

Make five petals.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Assembly

Sew the stems to each other. Sew the leaves and flowers onto the stems. You can use the photos as a guide.

Position some transparent sticky picture hooks on the wall where you would like the vine to go. Sew the vine to the hooks.
