Tasmanian Devil

I designed this for my twin brother’s birthday, I’m pretty sure he loves Tasmanian Devils (who doesn’t?)

This pattern uses black, white and pink 8 ply wool and a 4 mm crochet hook. You will also need googly eyes. It is written in American crochet notation.

Head

With black wool

Round 1: 6sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 3: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Rounds 4 – 5: sc in each stitch (18 stitches)

Round 6: sc in the first two stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (24 stitches)

Rounds 7 – 8: sc in each stitch (24 stitches)

Round 9: sc in the first three stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (30 stitches)

Rounds 10 – 12: sc in each stitch (30 stitches)

Round 13: sc in the first three stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (24 stitches)

Round 14: sc in the first two stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 15: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Round 16: decrease around (6 stitches)

Stuff the head

 

Body

Round 17: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 18: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 19: sc in the first two stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (24 stitches)

Round 20: sc in each stitch (24 stitches)

Round 21: sc in the first three stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (30 stitches)

Round 22: sc in each stitch (30 stitches)

Round 23: sc in the first four stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (36 stitches)

Rounds 24 – 35: sc in each stitch (36 stitches)

Round 36: sc in the first four stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (30 stitches)

Round 37: sc in each stitch (30 stitches)

Round 38: sc in the first three stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (24 stitches)

Round 39: sc in each stitch (24 stitches)

Round 40: sc in the first two stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 41: sc in each stitch (18 stitches)

Stuff the body

Round 42: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Round 43: decrease around (6 stitches)

 

Tail

Rounds 44 – 53: sc in each stitch (6 stitches)

Stuff the tail

Rounds 54 – 55: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (4 stitches)

Rounds 56 – 57: sc in each stitch (4 stitches)

Fasten off, sew hole closed and weave in end.

 

Legs (make four)

With black wool

Round 1: 6sc in a magic ring (6 stitches)

Round 2: increase in every stitch (12 stitches)

Round 3: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Rounds 4 – 5: sc in each stitch (18 stitches)

Round 6: (decrease two stitches together) x 5, sc in the next 8 stitches (13 stitches)

Round 7: (decrease two stitches together) x 5, sc in the next 3 stitches (8 stitches)

Rounds 8 – 14: sc in each stitch (8 stitches)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

 

Ears (make two)

Attach black wool to the head in round 11, chain 2, dc in the same spot, dc in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch, fasten off, weave in ends.

 

Assembly

Stuff legs and sew them to the body. Sew on googly eyes. Use pink to embroider the insides of the ears and the nose and mouth. Use white to embroider the claws, the white chest marking and the adorable little fangs.
