This pattern requires white, red and green 8 ply wool and a 4mm hook. It is written in American crochet notation.

Bulb

With white

Chain five

Sc 3 in the fourth chain (so the fifth chain is a turning chain)

Rounds 1 – 2: sc in each stitch (3 stitches)

Change to red

Round 3: sc in each stitch (3 stitches)

Round 4: increase in each stitch (6 stitches)

Round 5: increase in each stitch (12 stitches)

Round 6: sc in the first stitch, increase in the next stitch – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 7: sc in the first two stitches, increase in the next stitch – repeat (24 stitches)

Rounds 8 – 9: sc in each stitch (24 stitches)

Round 10: sc in the first two stitches, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (18 stitches)

Round 11: sc in the first stitch, decrease the next two stitches together – repeat (12 stitches)

Stuff

Round 12: decrease until the hole closes.

Fasten off, weave in end.

 

Leaves (make two)

With green

Holding two strands of wool together, attach them to the top of the bulb

Chain 10

(leaf)

Then, with only one strand, chain 6, turn, sc 5 along the chain until you are back to the stem, then chain 6 and turn

Rows 1 – 2: sc in each stitch (10 stitches)

Row 3: slip stitch in the first four stitches, sc in the next two stitches, turn (two stitches, slip stitches don’t count J)

Row 4: sc in the first two stitches, turn (two stitches)

Row 5: chain 3, turn, sc 4 (so two into the chain and two into the stitches of the previous row), chain 3, turn

Row 6: sc in each stitch (so two into the chain and four into the stitches of the previous row) (6 stitches)

Row 7: increase in the first stitch, sc in the next four stitches, increase in the last stitch (8 stitches)

Row 8: increase in the first stitch, sc in the next six stitches, increase in the last stitch (10 stitches)

Rows 9 – 10: sc in each stitch (10 stitches)

Row 11: decrease the first two stitches together, sc in the next six stitches, decrease the last two stitches together (8 stitches)

Row 12: decrease the first two stitches together, sc in the next four stitches, decrease the last two stitches together (6 stitches)

Row 13: decrease the first two stitches together, sc in the next two stitches, decrease the last two stitches together (4 stitches)

Row 14: decrease the first two stitches together, decrease the last two stitches together (2 stitches)

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Fasten off the second strand from the stem and weave it in.
